I'm a Housewife for two weeks Yesterday Mike left for Italy. He'll be gone 12 days, and in the meantime I am home with the kiddos. I am scared of doing a bad job. Yesterday after he left, I sat in the airport restaurant and cried. Lisetta and Andreas hugged me. I missed him so much already. I really want to get a lot of housework done, and I also want to have a pleasant time with the kids. Azaya is off school today for Veteran's Day, so her dad is dropping her off when he goes to work. Then we are all going up to my school so that I can start some films calcining. They need to be done by Monday, when I've got a babysitter so I can get some work done. I'm going to work on Tuesday as well, but for a shorter time. After we go up to campus, we are going to go to the grocery store to stock up! I want it to be easy to decide what to make for meals. Yesterday when we got home from the airport I cleaned my shower. Mike and I came up with a housework schedule, and so I'm going to do my best to stick with it. One of my biggest goals for while he's gone is to get our financial situation in order. Everything balanced, with a budget planned out. That way we can curb waste of money. I've got to get the kids back on MediCal, and we are going to get dental insurance for Mike because he needs to get his wisdom teeth out. Dental insurance is actually not that expensive. He doesn't have health insurance though, which is a bummer, because we have to go through the ability-to-pay program, and that is a pain in the ass. Our Subaru didn't used to start in the rain, and a lot of times in the early morning, and it really sucked sometimes. Since it was one of those things that was sporadic, it would never happen when we took our car in to the mechanic. Well, lucky us, the last time the car was at the mechanic it wouldn't start, and so the guy got it fixed! Our mechanic is this older Asian guy, and he is difficult to understand. I went with my sister-in-law to pick up her car, and he showed me the parts he took out, what was wrong with them, and all of this detail. It was cool. He definitely shows you what is going on. And he never fixes something that doesn't need it. We have had two or three minor problems since we've moved to LA, and he never tries to convince us to do more work. And I know we could do more work, such as replace the suspension, but why bother when the car has almost 300,000 miles on it? This guy will keep it running as long as possible, and that is the important part. I don't know how Mike finds these mechanics. I am definitely swayed by nicer looking garages and people who speak clear English. But somehow Mike found this cluttered little shop on a side street off of Venice, and the guy is good. Sorry, he fixes imports only. Okay, what am I doing still on here? I need to go get dressed so we can go to the store! |
