Another Reason to Hate PCs Let me tell you right now that this entry will not be interesting. But I just don't feel that I can tolerate trying to find the answer to my frustration on Google just right this moment, and so I have a silly hope that venting here will solve my problem. I have had to change the computer that is on my desk at work to a different one. Both are PCs, damn it all. This would never have happened with my iMac, but I digress. The problem? I had no sound on the new computer. After finagling around for a bit, I realized that when this computer was upgraded to XP the drivers for the sound card didn't get transferred or installed or upgraded or whatever. So, I downloaded this handy dandy utility called driverguide, and it located the drivers for me online, then I installed them. Boom, the computer recognized the soundcard and I seemed to have sound. I am ecstatic, because I have a new pair of headphones that are just really going to liven up my literature searches, you know? The last few days though, I have forgotten to bring my new headphones to work. Today, I remembered. So, why aren't I happy? Because I plug in the headphones and put them on. No music is playing; I haven't started iTunes. I hear, to my horror, static. Oh fucking no. Now, when I am playing my music, I hear fucking static in the background. It is more obvious with some songs then with others, but nonetheless it is still there. I have no idea how to get rid of this static. My headphones are plugged directly into the soundcard, and so I think that this soundcard sucks or the drivers weren't perfect or something. It's not the headphones, because I use them at home on my iMac without problem. The day I get a Powerbook with Tiger on it will be a happy day. Though it is just a dream. |
